cPanel is the most popular control panel for one reason, and that is simply because it works. It’s intuitive, it’s stable and it gives you a ton of features for the price.

This cheat sheet has been around for a number of years, but beginners and seasoned veterans alike will still fine it quite useful.

It’s divided into sections for ease of use:

We’re on the forums everyday capturing the pulse of web hosting trends and issues, and what we see day in and day out are issues revolving around migration of data from one web hosting provider to another provider. Some of these issues are not related to control panels per se, but many are.

Some OPs (original posters) come on the forums complaining that their providers have either corrupted their data or lost it entirely, and are now looking to migrate elsewhere, but can’t retrieve their site. When queried about remote backups, way too many of them are like, “Well no, we never thought about backing up our data. We just kind of thought that was our provider’s job.” Not! Nearly all web hosting providers have clauses in their Terms of Service (TOS) that state backups are the client’s responsibility. Fortunately, cPanel allows you to easily create remote backups. Problem solved!

Delving into site migration a little deeper, not every control panel is easily transferred to the control panel of the new provider. For those with cPanel, migrating to another provider with cPanel is a breeze, and most providers will perform that migration for you FREE of charge.

Some of the features of cPanel that our clients love are:

Logs – giving you the ability to track metrics of your website with programs like AWStats and Webalizer. Need to know what keywords people are using to find your site? It’s in there. How about the days of the week and hours of the day that visitors to your site frequent most often? In there!

Security – Want to password protect directories? Set up IP address denials? Done!

Files – Need to edit or backup your files and folders? Easy peasy!

Domains – What do you want to do with your domains? Setup subdomains? Park them? Redirect them? All possible with cPanel.

Minimum requirements

As with all software, there are minimum requirements to ensure that cPanel runs smoothly.

cPanel’s website calls it “The Hosting Platform of Choice.” If you’ve been looking at DirectAdmin, Virtualmin or any other number of control panels, trying to determine which control panel best matches your specific hosting requirements, look no further than cPanel.
