We\u00a0<strong>strongly\u00a0<\/strong>recommend that you use this method.<\/p>\n<p>Deactivate firewalls on CentOS, CloudLinux, and RHEL 6&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Deactivate firewalls on CentOS, CloudLinux, and RHEL 7&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Utilities<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>You\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/access.redhat.com\/documentation\/en-US\/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform\/3\/html\/Installation_and_Configuration_Guide\/Disabling_Network_Manager.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">disable NetworkManager<\/a>\u00a0<strong>before<\/strong>\u00a0you run the cPanel &amp; WHM installation. The Network Manager service automates the network&#8217;s settings and disrupts connections to the IP addresses that reside in the\u00a0ipaliases\u00a0module.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Run the following commands from the server&#8217;s console to prevent any interruption to network connectivity.<\/li>\n<li>Exercise\u00a0<strong>extreme caution<\/strong>\u00a0when you run these commands. If you do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0follow them exactly, your server may lose its network services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Disable NetworkManager on CentOS, CloudLinux, or RHEL 5 or 6&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Disable NetworkManager on CentOS, CloudLinux, or RHEL 7&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Hardware considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you choose a server, consider the following questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>How many sites do you plan to host?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Servers that host a large number of websites with associated email addresses and databases require more processing power, disk space, and RAM.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What kind of web hosting do you plan to do?<br \/>\n<\/strong>You can run cPanel &amp; WHM with the minimum requirements below, but servers that host videos, music, or high-volume applications\u00a0require more processing power, disk space, and RAM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The cPanel &amp; WHM installation and upgrade processes require\u00a0<strong>at least<\/strong>\u00a03 GB of additional disk space for staging purposes.<\/li>\n<li>Before the installation process begins, the system checks to ensure that your server meets these minimum memory requirements. If your server does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0meet these requirements, the installation process will return an error message and then exit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Operating systems<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>cPanel, Inc. supports all of the official production release kernels for these operating systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We currently support CentOS versions 6.5 or later.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installations of cPanel &amp; WHM on CentOS servers\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0use CentOS version 6.5 or later.<\/li>\n<li>We recommend that you use the\u00a0minimal\u00a0installer, especially if you choose to install CentOS 7.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click for CentOS installation instructions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We currently support CloudLinux versions 6 and 7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information about CloudLinux installation, read CloudLinux&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cloudlinux.com\/cpanel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Getting Started with CloudLinux OS\u00a0<\/a>documentation.<\/p>\n<p>Click for more information and CloudLinux installation instructions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We currently support Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 6 and 7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installations of cPanel &amp; WHM on RHEL servers\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0use RHEL version 6 or higher.<\/li>\n<li>cPanel, Inc. does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0support installation on Red Hat Update Infrastructure (RHUI) systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click for more information and RHEL installation instructions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We currently support Amazon Linux.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To install Amazon Linux, follow the instructions in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.aws.amazon.com\/AWSEC2\/latest\/UserGuide\/finding-an-ami.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Amazon Web Services documentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warnings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We\u00a0<strong>only<\/strong>\u00a0support Amazon Linux on the official cPanel &amp; WHM AMI. To find this AMI, navigate to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/marketplace\/pp\/B01BL4GT62\/ref=sp_mpg_product_title?ie=UTF8&amp;sr=0-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cPanel &amp; WHM AMI<\/a>\u00a0download in the AWS marketplace.<\/li>\n<li>To install cPanel &amp; WHM in a CloudLinux AMI environment, you\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0download the CloudLinux AMI. To find this AMI, navigate to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/marketplace\/pp\/B071CFHKSG?qid=1495114645792&amp;sr=0-4&amp;ref_=srh_res_product_title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CloudLinux AMI<\/a>\u00a0in the AWS marketplace. You\u00a0<strong>cannot<\/strong>\u00a0convert a cPanel &amp; WHM AMI server to a CloudLinux server.<\/li>\n<li>We\u00a0<strong>strongly<\/strong>\u00a0recommend that you do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0install cPanel &amp; WHM on servers that rely on snapshot data (for example, Amazon EC2 Spot Instances). When these servers revert to use snapshot data, the system detects this action as a uniqueness change. This behavior causes these servers&#8217; cPanel &amp; WHM licenses to lock due to the uniqueness changes for that server&#8217;s cPanel &amp; WHM license. A locked license disables a cPanel &amp; WHM server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ruby on Rails does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0function on Amazon Linux servers and is\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0currently available on CentOS 7 servers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disable SELinux<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your server runs an operating system from a source other than the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.cpanel.net\/installation-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cPanel &amp; WHM installer<\/a>, you\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0disable SELinux to make your system compatible with cPanel &amp; WHM.<\/p>\n<p>To disable SELinux security features, use one of the following methods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the graphical interface to disable SELinux while you configure your operating system, and then reboot the server.<\/li>\n<li>Edit the\u00a0\/etc\/selinux\/config\u00a0file to set the\u00a0SELINUX\u00a0parameter to\u00a0disabled, and then reboot the server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The contents of the \/etc\/selinux\/config file should resemble the following example&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To run cPanel &amp; WHM on your server, SELinux\u00a0<strong>must remain disabled<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>SELinux in\u00a0<strong>enforcing<\/strong>\u00a0mode does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0allow cPanel &amp; WHM to function properly. For more information about SELinux modes, read the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/selinuxproject.org\/page\/Guide\/Mode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SELinux Mode<\/a>\u00a0documentation.<\/li>\n<li>While cPanel &amp; WHM can function with SELinux in\u00a0<strong>permissive<\/strong>\u00a0mode, we recommend that you do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0use it.\u00a0<strong>Permissive<\/strong>\u00a0mode generates a large number of log entries.<\/li>\n<li>To check the status of SELinux on your server, run the\u00a0sestatus\u00a0command.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0transfer the SELinux configuration file between computers. It may destroy the file&#8217;s integrity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IPv6 kernel support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>cPanel &amp; WHM\u00a0<strong>and<\/strong>\u00a0cPanel DNSONLY\u00a0<strong>require\u00a0<\/strong>that your kernel includes the\u00a0ipv6\u00a0module, or includes that functionality directly within the kernel.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If your kernel does not include it in the\u00a0ipv6\u00a0module, the\u00a0AF_INET6\u00a0address family\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0also be available.<\/li>\n<li>Most distributed kernels include this support by default. However, some users of custom kernels may experience problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Warning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your kernel does not include the appropriate IPv6 support, the installation will\u00a0<strong>fail<em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perl installation<\/p>\n<p>Perl\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0exist on your server before the installation script for cPanel &amp; WHM can run successfully. If Perl does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0exist during installation, the cPanel &amp; WHM installer attempts to install Perl via the\u00a0yum -y install perl\u00a0command.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you see errors during this step of the installation process, read our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/ALD\/Installation+Guide+-+Troubleshoot+Your+Installation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Troubleshoot Your Installation<\/a>\u00a0documentation.<\/li>\n<li>For more information about Perl on your server, and which versions of Perl ship with specific operating systems, read our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/SDK\/Guide+to+Perl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Guide to Perl in cPanel &amp; WHM<\/a> documentation. cPanel &amp; WHM servers use multiple Perl environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0<strong>strongly<\/strong>\u00a0recommend that you allow your operating system&#8217;s distribution to control the system Perl installation. Do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0customize this Perl installation.<\/p>\n<p>Filesystems<\/p>\n<p>When you install your operating system (OS), we recommend that you use the following filesystems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CentOS, CloudLinux, and RHEL 7<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Use the XFS\u00ae or\u00a0ext4\u00a0filesystems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>All other supported operating systems<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Use an\u00a0ext\u00a0filesystem (ext3\u00a0or\u00a0ext4).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0<strong>only<\/strong>\u00a0develop and test cPanel &amp; WHM on filesystems that support\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/linux.die.net\/man\/2\/flock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">flock<\/a>. Some network filesystems (for example, NFS) may require additional configuration in order to function properly. The OS can only access a limited number of files per partition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inodes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Linux, an inode is a filesystem object that contains the owner, permissions, and other important metadata. Every file, image, directory, email, and symbolic link on your server requires an inode.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On average, files on webservers are usually smaller than on other types of servers. Therefore, we recommend that you allocate more than the default number of inodes on your server&#8217;s partitions.<\/li>\n<li>If you install everything on a single partition, the base cPanel &amp; WHM or cPanel DNSONLY installation requires\u00a0<strong>at least<\/strong>\u00a01,000,000 inodes,\u00a0<strong>plus<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>at least <\/strong>50,000 inodes per cPanel account that you plan to host.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Virtual environments<\/p>\n<p>cPanel products support the following virtual environments:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Virtual environment<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>Additional restrictions<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>KVM<\/td>\n<td><em>None.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you use a Linux bridge on a KVM server, you may experience problems with multicast routing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These problems affect the server&#8217;s ability to resolve nodes on the network. For example, IPv6 Stateless Address Autoconfiguration (SLAAC) addresses may drop off intermittently, or the server may experience problems when it attempts to find the router.<\/li>\n<li>To resolve this issue, set the\u00a0multicast_router\u00a0system knob value to\u00a02.
